Student NGO

Creating a website for a student NGO

Project

UX & UI

Context

Create a student NGO from the Netherlands, including blog section with info up to date

Problem

The NGO required a website, aimed as a central knowledge point for members, partners, and future Romanian students from The Netherlands. It should help promote the activites of the NGO, give guidance for future Romanian students, and inherently raise the credibility of the NGO, raising recruitment numbers inherently.

Process

The first step was to run guided exercises with the existing memberbase, to find out the core value, mission, and what defines the NGO and its main audience. Further, the main communication points were set and card sorting was used to create relevant categories. Next, created pages that show a glimpse into the organization, improving awareness & raising applications for volunteers. Added Recruitment & Contact page, which lowered the need of continuous posting via social media. Created sepparate pages, one for existing sponsors & partners, and one for future ones - showing the benefits of supporting the organization.

Solution

Students have now a website, with pages which they can see information repeatedly requested via social media. They can view personal experiences of those that were in their situation, from various places of Netherlands. The overall result is a website that now aids members, sponsors, and students alike, all having the Romanian community in The Netherlands as common ground.

Some Lessons & Future Developlment

The sponsors section will need a review after 1-2 years of activity, to better see what works for that specific angle. A round of user research could be carried out with next generation of students, to see if the ownership model works.
